If i get a alltel or verizon plan phone off of ebay or craigslist can i turn...

...it into a pre-paid such as ENV2? ok so i was on att and recently took a trip to florida and i had a iphone 3g well i lost it in a taxi cab and it got stolen and my mom wont get me another contract so i was wondering if i get a verizon/sprint/alltel phone can i turn it into a pre-paid a phone like the env3,env2,blackberry curve some kind of smartphone?
