Question about Alltel/Verizon family plans and phones...?

Okay well first off, how many lines can you have in a family plan, my husbands family has five and I want to be added as the sixth but the office is closed right now and I wondered if anyone knew what the limit was. Also, do they have any good free with new plan phones right now?
