Can I sync my college gmail account with the gmail account on android phones?

I am planning on getting the Motorola (NYSE: MOT) droid when it comes out this week or next week. I kno that being a Google (NSDQ: GOOG) phone it syncs with gmail, but i have a gmail account from my school, and when I try to sign in from gmail directly from google's homepage it says I have to get a different Gmail account. Do you kno if when i get the phone it will sync right away with my school gmail or do i have to sign up for a gmail directly from google?
