iphone upgrade question!?

I really want the new iphone 3gs 16gb and I'm eligible for upgrade in 2 months. I planned on waiting those 2 months but now the touchscreen on my LG Vu has stopped working for no reason and I'm in need for a new phone. I talked to att and they said I can early upgrade early for normal upgrade price EXCEPT the iphone. They would charge me a $200 upgrade charge (making the phone go from 200 to 400). Obviously I'm not going to do that. I also dont want to upgrade to any other phone because I'm so close to getting my iphone. I thought about a go phone but those things are like $40 and they are peices of crap. Is there any way around this?? Someone told me to add a line for only $10 more a month and I would be able to get the iphone is this true? Can someone please help me?

Yes, you can add a new line of service @ $9.99/month on a Family Talk plan but the new phone line would have it's own 2 year contract.
