The iPhone will not work on Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Wireless at all. Let me explain a few things about the different technologies before I tell you which carriers the iPhone will work with.

The iPhone is primarily powered by AT&T (cingular). They use GSM technologies. This means their phones require a SIM Card and can be used more often worldwide. GSM is not the major technology in the US but it is used mainly by AT&T and T-Mobile. GSM has poor call quality therefore is not the technology of choice.

Verizon Wireless uses CDMA and PCS technologies (depending on the part of the country your in). Both of these are primarily the exact same technology, except PCS works much better in urban areas while CDMA works better nationally especially in rural areas. They DO NOT use SIM Cards. And no, they do not have them built in the phone. They simply don't need them. CDMA and PCS in much more reliable and can hold a call much clearer without dropping it. Hints why Verizon claims "America's Most Reliable Wireless Network".

The iPhone is ran by GSM technology and has a built in hidden SIM Card under the back of the battery. It would only be capable of being used on another GSM network. GSM Networks are primarily only T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) and AT&T. Others do exist but not as national carriers. Those are your pick. If you choose to take it to a different carrier, you will lose a lot of your features. Features you will lose are : Internet, Data, text messaging, etc

As said above, if it is unlocked, it will work with any GSM provider. Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is not a GSM provider, so it will not work.

The SIM is in the SIM tray located at the top of the phone, not behind the battery.
