I'm thinking about buying a 1st gen iPhone off of ebay, can I just pop my sim card in and use it? Does it need to be unlocked?
Ok, let me rephrase. Can I use the iPhone with my current plan without using the iPhone plan.

You can unlock it if you dont want to be on AT&T. Or if you want to use a pay as you go sim. But other than that you need a plan. If you buy it off ebay about 80% of iPhone sare unlocked. 10% locked and 10% is broken/bricked.

Yes, it still needs to be unlocked. Most of them on Ebay are already sold unlocked though. Try it.
