Default Could I buy an iPhone 3G with the data plan, then cancel the data plan

after a couple of weeks? I want to get an iPhone 3G, but the data plan would be pretty useless to me. I almost never use the internet on cell phones. So would this work? I buy the iPhone 3G with the data plan, then after about 2 weeks, cancel the data plan? Would they let me cancel the data plan?
No, I don't want an iPod Touch. I want a phone. I would use WiFi for the internet.
