can i switch my sprint phone to boost mobile?

i happen to find a Sprint (NYSE: S) phone ( HTC )..back in June. I called the last number on the history call but no answer so i decided to keep the phone. Now i would like to activate it but im not sure what will happen would they take it away from me? AND/OR if they dont then i would like to switch it to boost mobile for the 50$ monthly plan..would i be able to do that??
