Boost mobile and nextel phone Help.?

Okay so my dad bought a brand new boost mobile phone and switched the sim card into his old nextel phone so now he uses that. and he gave me the boost mobile phone and i just have to get a starter kit But i need to know if i can use the boost mobile phone. Like is that all ive got to do is get the starter kit. Or can i not use it cause of the idem number or w/e its called in the boost phone?

ok so i think i understand... you have a boost phone and you want to activate it, but it's not brand new. right?

so my understanding is you just get the starter kit and you're good. But you could call Boost's customer care to make sure...
