How do you unlock a sidekick phone to use in the UK?

I bought a sidekick lx and it said it was unlocked and could be used in the UK but when i got it there is just the screen Waiting for Activation on the screen and i have tryed pressing the Menu+L buttons but nothing happens. Can i unlock it so i can use it in the UK?
