| language) or Unix/Linux + Java and why? Opinions from experts about this are very appreciated as I have been offered a good job to work with Unix + Java + MySql but I studied and worked more with vb.net, Windows and Ms SQL 2005 so, I would like to know if there is any negative aspect of direct my career to Unix + Java or if is better or worst than Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) .net + Windows technologies. Thanks in advance for your time. |

| Good luck in finding an answer to your question. As a matter of fact there is no answer, but rather everyone here will be biased to the technology he is used to. I have been working in development in Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) technologies since 4 years and that's what I do best. I chose this path because of the job opportunities where I live. Just because "most of the web hosts" use UNIX doesn't mean it will be easier for you to find a job if you're a UNIX administrator. You have to research your own market to sniff the job opportunities in your particular area. I have been working in ASP.NET for quite a time now and I believe that it is the fastest environment/framework to develop web applications. SQL server 2005 is also on the rise. It has been greatly enhanced since SQL Server 2000. Yes, it doesn't compete with Oracle, but taken it's price into consideration and the cheaper services you get with it rather than with Oracle makes it a serious competitor. In the end I suggest that you research the job opportunities in your particular area before taking a decision. All answers here will be biased. Hope this helps. |
