how can i convince my parents to let me get a cell phone?

get lost on "accident" and then show up later after they are worried and say, "Well, if I had a cell phone, I would have been able to call you." I did this twice and they finally got the point.

it took me a few years to convince my parents, and i just got one a couple weeks ago.

i got mine because when i went places they would be able to reach me whenever they needed. and if i needed to reach them, i wouldn't have any reason not to.

Well tell them that you'll pay for the phone and they can pay for the service. That's how I got my Sidekick. Both of my parents get their cell phones from work, so they never knew that it costed a lot.

For starters, just say hey mom, dad I'm really trying to become responsible and I think if I had a cell phone, you guys could get in touch with me or I could call you guys if I'm going to be late getting home.

Depends. How old are you? Do you really need one? Are you going to places where your parents can't reach you? Even if your friends have one it doesn't matter. I have one because I got mine free. So ask if one of your parents needs a new phone and if they do you can do that buy one get one free thing. I think its CIngular/AT&T that's doing the buy one get up to four free.
