qusetion about the htc diamond?

im going to buy this phone, but is there a required data plan for this? ex. like the iphone you must pay like $40 a month ATLEAST just for the data plan.. then minutes.. texting.. blah blah.. all i really want is the wifi option which you get for free.. and texting/picture mail and minutes
