Does anyone know how to but applications onto the HTC touch HD phone?

hi i have just got a htc touch hd phone and i want to put some more applications onto it. Ive tried downloading some from the itunes app store but it is not compatible with the phone. So does anyone know how to make them compatible or a place that i can download applications that are safe and will work on the htc touch hd?
