broken lg dare, vzw insurance?

so, I JUST bought a phone off ebay, an lg dare, for 145 dollars.
I have a wonderfully loving two year old who grabbed it and threw it into his bathtub water, then.... the screen froze and i kind of smashed it against something and well it didn't like that too much either.

I don't have insurance on it but I was wondering if I go up to VZW monday and pay the first months fee and the deductible right then would they replace it for me?

Will they even allow me to place insurance on a broken phone?
i thought the whole no insurance on phones off ebay thing was wrong. and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) considers the lg dare as a smart phone.

First, you cannot add insurance to an already broken phone.

It is possible that the store may allow you to do an exchange as if you had insurance but that would be determined at the store.
