lg shine (cu720) signal problem?

two weeks ago, i got an lg cu720 for my birthday. it started working okay, but it's ability to get any signal got worse and worse, and now i can't even stand in a parking lot to get one bar. to begin, my phone does this thing where it needs an "E" by the signal, an "EDGE" connection, to make a call or send a text. i can have 5 bars, but if there isn't an "E," it won't send a message or if i try to make a call, it will say "Service Unavailable." i don't know why it does that. but, it refuses to get signal. it has a few scratches on it already, so i don't think i can trade it in for a new/different phone. i have another unlocked, older, phone, but i didn't pay $125 so i could use that. the color is black if that makes a difference. what can i do to fix this? will a master reset do anything? anyone else having the same problem?

this is the worst piece of s phone ive ever used. i dont get service anywhere. im about to throw it off a bridge

I recently started to use the LG shine (cu720) and had a "service unavailable" problem as well almost every single time I tried to make a call, which was extremely frustrating. However, after finally being able to call customer care and after visiting a AT&T corporate store, I found out my sim card was too old for the phone. If you have AT&T and if you've had your sim card for awhile, maybe switching to an updated sim card will help. I was told that with the new sim card the phone would be more able to detect available towers for signal. Since then I have had no problems with calling. If you still have the phone I hope this helps.
