Default Your Motorola & your media - how to

So you have a Motorola, probably a variation of the RAZR, and you have some media, maybe a ringtone, a picture, a game, and you have no idea how to get it to your phone from your computer. Here is how you do it.

GSM Motorola (NYSE: MOT) phones (AT&T, T-Mobile, Centennial, etc)

- Inexpensive Bluetooth dongle & sync your phone to your computer and send via Bluetooth. This is the easiest way to do it.
- Mini USB to USB & P2K program (P2K Commander, Motorola Phone Tools, BitPim). This is the hardest way to do it.
- USB memory card reader - insert memory card, drag and drop your media. This is the fastest way to do it.

CDMA Motorola phones (Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, Cricket, MetroPCS, etc)

- Inexpensive Bluetooth dongle & sync your phone to your computer and send via Bluetooth. NOTE - this does not work with all providers, as some providers like Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and Sprint (NYSE: S) block the OBEX (object exchange) profile on their phones, eliminating the transfer of media via Bluetooth. This is the easiest way to do it.
- USB memory card reader - insert memory card, drag and drop your media. This is the fastest way to do it.
- email it to your phone
- online media uploader: For Sprint - http://www.sprintusers.com/focus/ and for others - Free Ringtone Uploader - FunForMobile
If you use the online uploaders, messaging and/or data charges may apply, so check before you go nuts sending stuff to your phone.

Ringtones - There are numerous sites on the internet that will let you download ringtones to your computer for free. Most newer Motorola phones take .mp3 files. They also take .mid file. Once you download the ringtone you want, send it to your phone via one of the methods mentioned above. If you cannot find the ringtone you want, consider downloading Audacity for free here Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder and make your own ringtones.

Wallpapers - There are numbers sites on the internet that will let you download wallpapers to your computer for free. Most of the Motorola screens are 176x220, with a few exceptions like the new RAZR V9 which is 240x320.

Games

GSM You want JAVA games. Download the .jar file and send to your phone.

CDMA You want BREW games. Download the .jad and .jar file and send to your phone. Most of the time you will need both in order for the game to work properly.

Tips & Tricks
Google is your friend. Use it. The content that you are looking for is out there, you just need to search for it. Not sure how to? Google Image Search and search for "176x220" wallpaper and see what comes up. Numerous sites will show, just click on one, and then start looking for stuff that you want. Use the internet and a little imagination, and the following sites:
Google
Yahoo!
AltaVista
Dogpile Web Search Home Page

Mac/Apple Got a Mac? Got a GSM phone? You more than likely already have Bluetooth on your computer. Sync your phone to your computer, Bluetooth > Setup Bluetooth Device > Continue > select Mobile Device and follow the directions. Got a CDMA phone? Try BitPim. Welcome to BitPim

Remember, free is free, and you get what you pay for, but if you invest a little time, and a little effort, usually you can find what you want. I don't suggest joining sites like the ones advertised on TV where you text a number to this number and get this ringtone sent to your phone. Those are a ripoff, and usually have hidden fees that you later find out about.
