No o2 mobile signal in my area. Is there anything I can do?

I live on a 14year old estate (King Hill, Kent, UK) and I get really bad signal on my O2 (NYSE: TEF) mobile. I know that everyone does so its not just me.
What steps can I take?
Should I start some sort of petition for the 1000 homes that are affected?
or contact my network, or the council?
any help would be very much appreciated.
Or...
Is there any sort of mobile phone signal booster I can get for my house?
At the moment I have to divert all calls to my home phone which is very annoying.

Why don't you just switch networks?

There are femtocell devices that will be around soon, which allow you to create your own mini-mobile transmitter. However, O2 (NYSE: TEF) don't offer one at the moment and if they did, it would be quite expensive.
