Best/cheapest way to get a Qwerty phone for MetroPCS or Boost Mobile?

I like Boost Mobile for their better coverage area, whereas I've heard that MetroPCS' service sucks even in Atlanta, Georgia.

I like Boost's $50 a month unlimited plan. I do a lot of text messaging, internet browsing/email checking and general phone conversation, so that's perfect for me. The cheapest Boost Mobile phone that has a Qwerty keyboard on it is $129. It's the Motorola (NYSE: MOT) i465.

Is there a way for me to buy this cheaper elsewhere and just get it activated through them? Or is it a requirement to buy and activate from them?
