Hi, I bought the 'CECT P168 Dual SIM Touch Screen GSM PDA Cell Phone (iPhone Clone)' in China last month and now have it here in Canada. I want to use it with a carrier here in Canada (maybe Rogers) but don't know what steps to take from here. Do I need a SIM card first? Does the phone need to be unlocked first? Is it already unlocked - how can I tell? Is it legal to use here in Canada? If it is unlocked, should I look for a SIM card from another cell phone instead? Any help would be appreciated, B

im not sue if te CECT P168 will work in the usa becuase it may not support the band. i will have a look and get back to you. however they all allready unlocked to all networks (aslong as the country supports the band frequency's and yes its completely legal its just a phone. and any simcard will work. regards M.D

the old p186's were tri band not quad band. depends on the frequency ur carrier uses. as far as unlocked goes... generally if the phones display is in english its been unlocked. only way to tell is to pop a sim card in it and see if it picks it up. there is a massive thread about this phone with an abundance of information regarding setup and such in these forums . And as far as legality .... you can use w/e phone u want just dont expect your carrier to give tech support for the phone.

yes you need a sim card i found out that phone works best with T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) sim. i bought that phone and i have at&t (cingular) and it works in most of the city in texas. i took it to a cell phone specialist that deals with unlocked phones he told me he will not be able to do anything for me. cause that is a tri band phone 900/1800/1900 that is why its picking up only the 1900 band here in states. here us usa he told me we use 850/1900 band. if you buy an overseas phone get a quad band 850/900/1800/1900. cause 900/1900 are meant for european phones. i gave that phone away to a friend that has tmobile. and it works good for her.

I am interested in the CECT P168 due the fact I would like a nice upgrade to my current pre-paid phone and I would never qualify for an iPhone. Can I purchase a SIM Card directly from the carrier, like AT&T or T-Mobile? Funny enough I looked on ATT website this afternoon and saw they sold SIM Cards, but now this evening I can't find it anywhere. Also, what is luck people are having with this phone, getting a SIM Card and having it work in the USA? I guess even if I got the phone, I wouldn't know where to get a SIM Card, how I actually pay for my service and if it will work in the US. Thanks

| You can sign up for service with AT&T, and just buy the SIM card, but you will need to sign a one year contract. The SIM card was available on their site, but I believe that it was since removed due to an error. Personally, I would not suggest this iPhone clone or knockoff. I would stick with a manufacturer that is well known, like Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, etc.
