Pantech Matrix Check Battery Signal?

Ok, to start off. I got the Pantech Matrix from att the 2nd or 3rd week of September so i have had it for about a month. I was in the bathroom getting ready to brush my teeth before bed (12:45 friday) and I reached over the toilet and it fell in. Luckily i had a hard, clear cover on it so the battery and the sim card wet. just the screen. So i put it in rice for 48 hours and the screen is dried out and i also took the battery out and put it in rice and didn't but the back on and i also took the sim card out. i also opened the latch where the charger goes. so i go to charge it and it says check battery so i got it charging while the phone was off all day while i was in school and it still had not charged all the way so i turned it on. It was like it never charged. So i plugged it in and it was still saying check battery it seems to be charging ok right now.
