Text message ringtones for the Samsung Propel? Does anyone know?

I have it set up so that when certain people call they have their own ringtone, but when they text me their ringtone doesn't work. Do the personalized rings only work when you receive a call? When someone texted me on my last phone, their ringtone would work for that as well. I can't find anything about this in the manual. Thanks for the help!
