Default Text message ringtones and T9 on the Samsung Propel?

I am going to upgrade to the Samsung Propel in a few weeks, but I have a few questions that I can't find answers to.

1. Can you set a custom ringtone for text messages on it? On all my other phones I've only been able to use ringtones that came with the phone for texts.

2. Do you have to use T9, or are there other options?
