My Samsung Propel won't make any of my songs my ringtones, help?

I can put songs on my MicroSD card. Apparently I can use those songs as ringtones. It keeps on saying that the song size is too large. I even cut out a mere 17 seconds of a song and it couldn't even take that, even though the phone has a 29 second preset ringtone. A friend of mine sent a ringtone to my phone that is 1 minute even. I can use it if I wanted to. I'm pissed that, that one will work but a 17 second one won't, or any of them for that matter. Anyone have a way to help me out?

There is a size limitation to the ringtone. I think I read somewhere that the size limitation can be adjusted but I never found out where.
