Can I buy an iPhone in Japan and use it in China?

Hi, my dad recently went on a business trip to Japan and is planning on buying an iPhone. Because we live in China the iPhones have the wifi disabled so we want to know would it be possible to buy an iPhone in Japan and get it cracked so we can use it in China.
