How do I rename files?

When transferring files from my ericcson mobil to my pc (via usb). The message 'file already exists, overwrite?' always pops up, obviously due to previous photos I ve transferred. How do I reanme the files on my phone, tried to do it on the fone itself and also on the media manager program, but there dosn t seem to be an option to do this. And I really dont want to have to change every existing file name
