How long will it take to port my cell phone number from Sprint to Verizion?

Ive been with Sprint (NYSE: S) for 8 years, and I have put up with their bull-shyt for way too long so Im moving on to Verizion, who has better service, most of my family has Verizion and they havent had any problems so I want to take my numbers with me but how long will it take?
Alos, I bought a Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Treo with Sprint but Verizion has the same phone, is there anyway I can use that phone but with verizion?

The carriers are two different network, I believe --so no, you will not be able to use a phone from one with the other. Leave your number active and take a recent phone bill to Verizon (NYSE: VZ) --they will verify that the number is portable --you should have your new phone working for outbound calls by the time you leave the store --it generally takes just 3 to 4 hours for your number to ring on the new phone.
