I work with the technical end of T-Mobile, so I don't know, but you can call our Customer Care center at 1-800-937-8997 and they can tell you what you need to know. I've had to deal with bad credit too, so I can sympathize.

Good luck!

I use to work for T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) and yes they do charge a deposit if you are looking to get a 2yr service agreement, but only if you have bad credit. If that is the case you should get the new Flexpay plan that T-mobile introduced last year, it's month to month, no contract, no credit check, same price and service the only difference is that you pay for your bill in advance and the phone will be retail price, you can also bring in your own phone which will be cheaper than buying it from them. ebay.com has cheap t-mobile cell phones.
