Sure it's true, but it's getting reported on their credit score and they are solely responsible for the bill and any problems that you may have with the phone. Bottom line is, the person signing the contract is the one who's credit it's being reported on. So no, there are never any cosigners with AT T Wireless, effective January 1, 2005.

There really isn't a way out of the security deposit with AT T. They run your credit through Equifax, and based upon your rating (A - F) They determine a deposit amount. Persons with a rating of A, B, C have no deposit, persons with a D have a $500 deposit, persons with an F or no credit have to throw down $750. The basis of the rating is based upon your individual Equifax Score. Here's the breakdown.
A 850 - 750
B 749 - 650
C 649 - 550
D 549 - 450
F 449 - 350
350 is the lowest rating that Equifax can have for you.

The only way to get better scores with AT T Credit Services is to establish reported credit with an alternative company. Unfortunately, none of them are contracted wireless service providers.

You do however get your deposit back after one year of being a customer in good standing, and that is applied as an account credit, which is virtually a year of service. Basically, you're simply prepaying for ytour service for a year, but that's only after you ask for it through customer service.l Yes, I know its gay, but you do have to ask for it back.
