Yes it will work in nj because i Have at&t and i live in sayreville, nj and cingular works fine

I dont know about working in your area. But the phone overall is good it has a great camera, can use as a mp3 player and can store a good amount without a card (which I have done) But on the done side the touch sensitive screen is a pain I tend to do things i dont want like call people or exit a menu! Also the screen is prone to scratches (only light ones)
