| still have service over there? I have a Nokia (NYSE: NOK) cell phone with Cingular Wireless here in the states. I'm traveling to Europe, Spain and Italy to be exact. Do you guys know if I'll still have service over there? As in, can I still make phone calls (charged roaming of course) and/or send text messages with my cell? Any answers I recieve will be very helpful. Thank you. |

| Ok, first you have to have Cingular authorize and activate "International Roaming" on your phone. You will be able to make calls, send and receive text messages, and even use the internet in most places IF AND ONLY IF your phone is a tri-band or quad-band World Phone. Keep in mind that roaming in Spain and Italy will be NO LESS THAN $1 per minute, and you'll be charged anywhere between 30 cents and a dollar for each message you send, depending on its size and content. Although you may use your Cingular phone and account to roam overseas, it is VERY expensive. You would be a lot better off having Cingular "UNLOCK" your phone before you go. This will allow you to use SIM cards from local providers in your phone. In Europe, pre-paid SIM cards are easy to find, and for around 30 Euros (USD $35-$40), you can buy enough minutes to get around and make various phone calls for a week or two. You will have a different phone number based out of the country where you bought the card. You may need to buy one in Spain AND one in Italy, as InterEuropean roaming isn't cheap either. |
