I realise that mobiles can be unlocked, but have heard that it's harder to do with the '3' network that I'm on. My son wants my old phone, but '3's payg tariff is too expensive. He wants to be able to choose any network.

theres usually stalls on markets that do this. im sure they would be able to do all networks. its worth going there to find out.

Some of the newer 3 phones are difficult to unlock. However, I have a Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N70, that I've unlocked from 3. I've used it on Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) in the past, and I'm now using it with an Orange sim, without any problems. I got it done at a small, independent mobile phone shop, and it cost me £10. Hope this helps.
