Can i use a T-mobile sim card in a TracFone?

My friend has an extra Motorola (NYSE: MOT) w490 TracFone that she'll send for me to use with my T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) plan; but I don't want her to bother shipping it if it won't work. Has anyone done this, does it work? Do Tracfones have limited functions? I need a phone for my son to use; I'm already paying for the extra line on my account; but need a phone...
