verizon lg cell phone frozen? help.?

one of my friends sent me a picture message (i know it wasn't a virus, b/c she received it earlier wanted to share it with me). anyway, now my cell phone is frozen. the screen just says 1 new pix message, but i can't open it. when i close it-- it does nothing. i tried turning it off-- wouldnt work.

do you think my phone will work once it loses battery (i.e.: powers off by itself)? im worried because i live alone on a college campus use my phone a lot -- in order to keep in touch w/people (no access to another phone) for my alarm.

has this ever happened to you??

Hold the power button for 10 seconds.
If the phone does not power off:
Remove the battery pack.
Hold the power button for 10 seconds with the battery pack removed.
Place the battery pack back in place and turn on.
