If you are not sure you can call Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and they will be able to tell you. I know for sure that you would end up paying a lot more for roaming and all that stuff. Anyways call them ASAP.

It's not the type of phone. It's the coverage and you need to contact the Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and ask about their agreements with the Brazilian cell phone providers. I can use my Canadian cell phone in US, Mexico and UK for a small additional fee. If Verizon provide that kind of service, there will be an additional charge on your phone every time you use. It's called roaming charges... think.

Yes. The rate for standard roaming in Brazil is $1.29/min. You may need to activate this ability on your account, so you should call customer service.

I apologize, I may have misread your question. If you're staying/living in Brazil and want to keep your Verizon (NYSE: VZ) fons, then you will need to contact the Brazillian providers to make sure they'll allow an unlocked fon on their network. I'm sure thats not a problem, just need to get Verizon to unlock the fons as well.
