how do i change my verizon cell phone number?

I have had a lot of telemarketers calling my phone at all hours. I answer and ask them to take me off their calling list, then another number for the same place calls. I can pay $5 a month to block up to 20 numbers, but it's pointless when they will just call from a different number. Also, does anyone know if I will have to pay for a new contract to have my cell phone number changed.
