| So you are thinking about using a smartphone on Verizon, but you are really confused about data plans, and if they are right for you. If you plan on using a BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) device, you are required by Verizon (NYSE: VZ) to have a BlackBerry data plan. There is no way around this, as they will not activate any BlackBerry onto their network without one. Don't want a BlackBerry? Thinking about a different smartphone? Some of them can be activated without a data plan, like the Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Q, Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Centro, etc. If the phones release date is newer than November 14th, 2008, you will need a data plan, like the Samsung Omnia. This thread will be left open for discussion about the data plans. Feel free to ask questions.
