can a virgin mobile phone from uk work in canada?

i am planning to buy a phone from the uk when i go there for a week or so. i want to buy a Virgin Mobile (NYSE: VM) phone from there and use it here in canada, ontario. Will it work out??

You'll have to contact the company so when you buy it. You can have international Roaming where you can call from other countries.. say if you were to buy a phone from another country which you are doing.
And if you buy a phone from UK the number's going to be different so talking to the place your going to buy it from about using it in another country will help.

well u will need to unlock from ur service provider it will cost about 5-30 depending on how good ur phone is if it is unlocked it will work anywhere in d world on any network

Probably not! Unless you buy a really expensive "sim free!" one. The reason being, you use 1900Mhz and we use 1800Mhz frequencies. Plus, the charger will be different and with a different voltage, different kind of plug style also. It will definately have to be unlocked. I would just get a Canadian one!
