would a virgin mobile canada phone work in the u.s.?

i really want this phone but Virgin Mobile (NYSE: VM) u.s. doesn't offer it
if i ordered it from canada would i be able to use it in the u.s.
would it cost more if i used a canada phone in the u.s.
