yeah I got them to unlock my phone before. they will generally ask you why you want them to unlock it but your reason is good enough that they should do it for you. You do need to have your phone's serial number for them to unlock it.

Default Asking vodafone to unlock my mobile phone?

im moving abroad and the phone i have should work in the country im going to, but i need to get it unlocked first. Anyone ever had any success with getting Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) to unlock their mobile phone? And can they legally refuse to?
thanks

You can get it unlocked ..

If it's a brand new phone or you just started out on your contract you may have to show documents that you are leaving the country like a copy of flight tickets or something like that,

But if you have been with them for atleast 6 months you can ask then to unlock and they MUST unlock without troubling you to much.
Well that's the case back in US but I believe its pretty much the same in UK too
